Itinerary

DAY 1.- CUSCO ANDES – CLOUD FOREST – ECO FREDY´S HOUSE LODGE

Leaving early from Cusco, we will pass by the pre-Inca tombs of Ninamarca, the colonial town of Paucartambo known as the folkloric center of the region. The next stop is Acjanacu (3530 m / 11,870 ft), which is the entrance to the Manu biosphere, to get an overview of the Amazon. After that, we will descend through different ecological levels such as the puna, the dwarf forest, and the cloud forest. Along the way, we can see endemic flora and fauna such as butterflies, giant ferns, orchids, monkeys, birds like toucans, tanagers, etc. The Cloud Forest is home to Peru’s national bird, the “Cock-of-the-Rock” (Rupicola peruviana, we visit its lek) and the spectacled bear (Tremarctus ornatus) – the only bear found in South America. We will spend the night at our comfortable and typical lodge.

DAY 2. ATALAYA PORT – RAINFOREST – LODGE – ECO FREDY´S HOUSE LODGE – BOCAMANU VILLAGE, LODGE

45-minute trip to Atalaya (500 m of tropical rainforest) where we will board our canoe that will take us for 6 hours to our Lodge in Boca Manu (280 m elevation).
During our journey, we can see a variety of birds in the trees, as well as caimans and tapirs on the riverbanks.
In the afternoon, we will take a hike along interesting trails in search of mammals, birds, and insects. In the evening, we will have the opportunity to go on a nocturnal hike, during which we will listen to various sounds of the Amazonian night such as the Night Monkey, the only nocturnal primate in the world, the Kalinowski Rat, numerous frog species, Great Potoos, and the Pygmy Owl, among many other night inhabitants. We will spend the night at the lodge. (D, A, C)

DAY 03.- BOCA MANU – PRIVATE RESERVE BLANQUILLO OR MWC

We will travel by boat for 3 hours, navigating downstream to the Private Reserve of Blanquillo. Here, there will be an opportunity to take a hike before lunch. The afternoon will be dedicated to exploring a meandering lake and surrounding areas, with the help of a catamaran.

We will calmly visit the lake observing the enormous diversity concentrated within this ecosystem, such as the Black Caiman, White Caiman, a group of Giant Otters, and birds associated with the lakes.
Upon returning to the lodge, we will have the opportunity to go on a nocturnal hike, where, with luck, we will see nocturnal birds like the sand-colored night hawk and also hear the spectacular sounds. (D, A, C)

DAY 04.- COLLPA DE GUACAMAYOS – LODGE

Before breakfast, we will descend along the river to a camouflaged floating platform located 90 m / 300 feet away from the Collpa, which is a rich deposit of natural minerals and clay on the river wall. From here, we can observe different species of parrots and also the Macaws putting on a colorful and impressive display.

After breakfast and this unforgettable spectacle, we will continue upstream along the Madre de Dios River to our campsite on the banks of the Alto Madre de Dios River. (D, A, C)

DAY 05.- LODGE – ECO FREDY´S HOUSE LODGE

Very early, at 5 am, we will navigate by boat for 20 minutes downstream to observe the parrot collpa, where different species of parrots and parakeets put on a colorful and impressive display. After breakfast, we will return to the first lodge.

Our boat will take us to Atalaya port where the bus will be waiting for us. We will travel to our comfortable and cozy lodge in Pilcopata where we will spend our last night. (D, A, C)

DAY 06. – LODGE – CUSCO

After breakfast, we will return to Cusco, one more hike in the cloud forest will conclude our activities, arriving in Cusco at approximately 5 pm. (B, L)
