Itinerary
First, we pick you up from your hotel around 8 am to head towards Moray. The journey takes approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes. Therefore, you will be driven through the snowy peaks of the Andes, where you will see lush yellow wheat fields, passing through picturesque little villages.
Soon, with the Maras Moray Cusco tour, you will arrive at a fascinating display of terraces (agricultural terraces) in Moray. Certainly, Moray has 3 terrace systems in an amphitheater-like structure made by the Incas. Similarly, these terraces are deeply carved into the earth in a bowl shape. It is believed that they were used to determine the optimal conditions for cultivating various crops.
After that, we will descend a bit to the salt mines of Maras located about 2 kilometers away. Most importantly, it was a production center dating back to pre-Inca times. Here, we will find more than 3000 salt ponds carved along the mountainside, which are filled daily by water seeping from the earth.
The “Rainbow Village – Chinchero”
Finally, we will visit Chinchero, where we will admire the well-preserved Inca walls in the main square as well as many altars. We will also visit the beautiful colonial church, unique for its artworks and imagery. Additionally, we will participate in a wonderful introduction to the art of Andean weaving. In the afternoon, we will become familiar with the wisdom of Andean weaving, which has been preserved since well before Inca times.
So, if you want to see something completely different, more than just archaeological sites, this tour is for you! The area is stunningly beautiful. Once the Maras Moray Chinchero tour is complete, you will return to Cusco to enjoy lunch on your own.
