Itinerary
First, our City Tour in Cusco begins at Qoricancha, also known as the Temple of the Sun. It was built by orders of Inca Pachacutec (1438 – 1572). When the Spanish arrived, it became the foundation of the Convent of Santo Domingo. During the Inca Empire, the temple was dedicated to the worship of the Sun God, “Inti.”
After that, we will head to Sacsayhuaman, one of the most emblematic places of the Inca Empire. It was built by Inca Pachacutec in the 15th century and is a structure made of enormous carved stones, approximately 9 meters tall, weighing at least 100 tons each. They are arranged in an organized and perfectly positioned way to form three platforms, each 390 meters long.
Then, continuing the city tour in Cusco, we go to the archaeological park of Qenqo, a center of worship and ceremonies dedicated to Mother Earth. History tells us that this was an amphitheater of cults where Inca bodies were placed for ceremonies, laid on trapezoidal structures found there.
PUCA PUCARA AND TAMBOMACHAY
Our next stop will be Puca Pucara, also known as the “Red Fort” because the stones used for its construction have turned this color due to high iron levels. Other archaeological structures can be appreciated here, including aqueducts, enclosures, and fountains. Due to its proximity to Tambomachay and its characteristics, it is believed to have served as a military defense for this site.
Finally, our last stop on the city tour in Cusco will be Tambomachay, located only 100 meters from Puca Pucara. It is made of carved rocks, forming a beautiful set of channels and waterfalls fed by natural springs. Most importantly, Tambomachay was a place for worshiping water.
